Keep reading for more helpful tips:

#4. Close the blinds.

Natural light can be a wonderful thing, but it can also make your home a lot warmer than it needs to be. During the hottest parts of the day, keep the blinds closed so that your HVAC system doesn’t have to work harder to combat the heat from the sun.

#5. Cook outside.

Nothing will warm up your home like baking something in your oven or cooking on your stove will. If you want to avoid bringing unnecessary heat into your home, cook outside on your grill or use a crockpot. Cold foods, like salads and sandwiches, are also a good choice.

#6. Switch to CFLs or LEDs.

Traditional fluorescent bulbs are incredibly inefficient, and they also generate a great deal of heat. Not only do LEDs and CFLs last a whole lot longer, they also don’t generate near as much heat.

#7. Make sure that your HVAC system is properly maintained.

Preventative maintenance is one of the most important things you can do for your HVAC system. If you properly maintain your system, it will run much more efficiently, plus you’ll be preventing expensive repairs in the future.
